Running on Faith Weekday Devotions – Friday 16 September 2022:
Mk 10:18 “And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good (moral excellence)? No one is good except God alone.”
Jesus is revealing His deity by having them confess that they give Him the attributes of God, that He is God and Man.
Gen 1:31 “God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.”
good adj. — having desirable or positive qualities
We frequently see & hear “God is good”! And, the Bible contains at least two variations of ‘good.’
Consider, however, that we also describe a cookie, piece of pie, or a friend as good.
Now consider ‘Holy’:
Rev 15:4 “Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy; For all the nations will come and worship before You, For Your righteous acts have been revealed.”
‘Holy’ is used for God alone & signifies worthiness of worship.
Yes, God is ‘good’. Yet, let’s also freely call God Holy!!
