Proverbs 6:6–11 “Go to the ant, O sluggard (i.e. lazy person), Observe her ways and be wise, Which, having no chief, Officer or ruler (i.e. no accountability), Prepares her food in the summer (i.e. with vision) And gathers her provision in the harvest.
How long will you lie down, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep? “A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to rest”—Your poverty will come in like a vagabond And your need like an armed man.”
Proverbs 15:19 “The way of the lazy is as a hedge of thorns, But the path of the upright is a highway.” (c.f. 21:25-26)
The sluggard is contrasted with the ant, the upright, and the righteous. Therefore, the ant is equivocal with the upright and righteous.
The ant, upright, and righteous complete their work with no accountability.
A biblical method of measuring character is whether someone without accountability works with proper vision and ambition.
