1 John 1:8–10: “If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves & the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful & righteous to forgive us our sins & to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar & His word is not in us.”

  1. Confess that you are a sinner in need of God’s forgiveness that is available only thru the death, blood, & resurrection of Jesus Christ. (c.f. John 3:16; Acts 16:31)
  2. It’s virtually impossible to confess each sin; we are often unaware of some/many.
  3. When the indwelling Holy Spirit convicts you of a sin, whether recent or decades ago, confess it ASAP. A convicted sin in your heart resembles a virus. Your spiritual, emotional, & relational health will remain in turmoil until you eradicate it thru confessing to God &, if necessary, others.

Justifying an inner-conviction is a strong indicator of ignoring a sin.
