Excerpt from yesterday’s Sermon
Mark 1:14–18: “Jesus…preaching the gospel of God, “… repent & believe in the gospel.”
As He was going along by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon & Andrew…for they were fishermen. Jesus said, “Follow Me, & I will make you become fishers of men.”
The OT symbolized the sea as wickedness. “But the wicked are like the tossing sea, For it cannot be quiet, And its waters toss up refuse and mud. There is no peace for the wicked.” (Is 57:20-21)
As fishermen lift fish out of the sea, so fishermen of men lift sinners out of wickedness & sin thru repenting & believing in the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Fish cannot can’t breath outside of water.
Similarly, Christ gives man a new method of *breathing* upon being ‘caught thru the gospel “and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind” (Eph 4:23).
Spirit: πνεῦμα ‘pneuma’ = breathing
This new breath of Christ yields an abundant life of inner-joy, peace, & eternal life.
