Mark 1:4: “John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.” (C.f Is. 40:3)
John was preaching this to the Jews who believed these activities were for only the Gentiles.
A challenge to maintaining athletic traditions, especially repeating as champions, is forgetting the necessary heart to achieve significant success.
Complacency causes athletes to subconsciously believe that simply putting on the uniform yields wins. Obviously, it’s the heart, & all it represents, of the coaches & athletes the create the amazing success.
The Jews, especially the Pharisees, believed simply wearing the *uniform* of Abraham, the Law, & their traditions yielded salvation. They lost the heart, the faith, of Abraham including trusting in the promised Messiah for salvation.
Do you have a heart for Christ or are you just trusting the uniform of your family heritage &/or sitting in the pew?
