James 4:6: “But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, ‘God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.'”
Ja 4:10: “Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.”
Oppose: antitassō; resist, a military term – “to battle against”.
Proud: hyperēphanos arrogant, showing oneself above others, self-exaltation.
Humble: apeinos – lowly, undistinguished, of no account, subservient, gentle, mild, undistinguished, common.
Exalt: hypsoō (verb-future tense), lift up, raise high, to give a high position.
Summary: If we try to lift ourselves up before the Lord, He will battle against us. If we humble ourselves before the Lord, recognizing our depravity-our putrid sin nature, our weakness compared to God’s infinite power & holiness-God will lift us up for His glory.
Meditate on two of my frequent confessions while running (& all of life):
“I can’t, you (Christ) can, we are.”
“It’s not me but Christ who is in me.”
I think you’ve made some really interesting points. Not many people would truly think about this the way you just did. I’m really impressed that there’s so considerably about this topic that’s been uncovered and you did it so well, with so much class. Good 1 you, man! Really great stuff here.
