Running on Faith Weekday Devotions

(10/24/2019):

  • What happens when we fail to honor and serve God?
  • Do excuses exist for failing to honor and serve God?
  • What happens when someone rejects God, exchanging His truth for a lie?
  • Does this have an impact on societal?
  • If so, how does this manifests itself in society?

Let’s take a look at the Bible.

Romans 1:18–32 (Romans is in the New Testament)

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them.

“For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.

For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.

Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them.

For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.

And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.”

Does the above passage adequately reflect the attitudes and behavior of some in today’s society?

The solution does not reside in man’s rules or any other external solution. Rather, the solution is the gospel of Jesus Christ. All Freedom, Freedom in every imaginable relationship, originates in the salvific relationship with Jesus Christ. The fruit of the Spirit leads to Freedom, the deeds of the flesh lead to captivity at every level.

We, or any human, cannot make someone believe or disbelieve. However, God, through His abundant mercy, graciously partners with us to share, to illuminate, His gospel to the world when we faithfully love, honor, serve, and obey Him.

Fortunately, each sinner can repent, turning from one’s sin to God, & receive forgiveness & salvation through Jesus Christ. (John 3:16, Acts 16:30-31)

Truth and Love are the gospel of Jesus Christ! The opposite of love is apathy.

God’s Love and Righteousness demands Justice. Righteousness demands consequence. Only an unrighteous God could tolerate unrighteousness.

This is why Jesus Christ DIED for our sins, we simply must turn to Him for forgiveness. In the words of Sesame Street, you can’t have one without the other!

Firmly reflect, “Do I worship and/or serve anything instead of or ahead of God?

Additional References:

Galatians 5:16–22

“But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.

But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.

Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”

Acts 16:29-31:

And he (the Jailer) called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas, and after he brought them out, he said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

They said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

John 3:16

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
